Enter a magical world of wintery festivity at Nottingham’s Winter Wonderland
The largest event in the East Midlands, spend an enchanting few hours enjoying the Christmas market, attractions and entertainment – and, of course, sampling some scrumptious festive food.
This festive extravaganza has something for everyone. Glide (or slide) your way around the Ice Rink – the largest real ice rink in the East Midlands, at 1160 square metres. This year, there’s a brand-new skate-up bar, as well as a children’s ice rink, so you’ll find a skating home whether you’re a Torvill and Dean talent, or more like Bambi! Afterwards, bounce your way down the Toboggan Slide in an inflatable ring; or take children for a ride on the Carousel, Santa Toy Ride, or the iconic Helter Skelter.
Back by popular demand is the Ice Bar, where you can enjoy cocktails served in real ice glasses from the Vodka Bar, surrounded by ice sculptures! If that sounds too chilly, warm up at the Altitude Bar – a cosy rooftop bar with stunning panoramic views: relish that après ski feeling in this all-glass chalet, enjoying cocktails, table service and a private DJ. For more formal dining, try Sur La Piste, where, alongside scrumptious food, you can sample fresh, unpasteurised beer from the oldest distillery in Europe, in the Czech Republic.
Winter Wonderland wouldn’t be complete without a quaint Christmas market: 2019 sees 20 new stalls coming to Nottingham, meaning there are over 70 independent traders to meet! Selling everything from tasty treats – artisan cheeses, homemade stew, continental food – to trendy new gifts – eco art, Lego art, fair-trade fashion – this year’s stalls are exceptional in both quality and variety.
Winter Wonderland runs from 14th November to 31st December (except Christmas Day), and is completely free to enter! Best of all, its hub in Old Market Square is only a couple of minutes away from us at the Mercure Nottingham, so you’ll be staying right in the heart of the festive celebrations.
