Newstead Abbey

Newstead Abbey

The Newstead Abbey was formerly an Augustinian priory that was converted into a domestic home following the dissolution of the Monasteries. It is now known as the ancestral home of Lord Byron.

It’s a glorious  and historic monument with a beautiful landscape of large gardens and parkland. When you take a tour within the Abbey, you get to see Victorian room settings and the poets private apartments.

The large gardens cover about 300 acres of land and include paths with waterfalls, ponds and cozy lakes. It’s a perfect place to relax and have a nice morning out in the autumn or summer.

The trees yield Japanese maple leaves and bright coloured rhododendrons in late spring, making it an apt location for some perfect instagram worthy pictures!

There’s a cafe that’s open throughout the day, serving some refreshments for the visitors of the Abbey.
